Heart-Warming Homeless Awareness on Woolly Hat Day
IF Group were proud to support Woolly Hat Day this year – which took place on Friday 30th January 2015. This was the 5th Annual woolly Hat Day, raising awareness about homelessness and raising money to help charities such as our Bristol Golden Key partner, St. Mungo’s Broadway. St. Mungo’s provides shelter and overnight accommodation for more than 2000 homeless people and managed to raise over £34,000 through the 2014 event.
IF Group Bristol is working to find new innovative ways for organisations to support people with multiple service needs and work together across areas of homelessness, addiction recovery, mental health services and organisations helping re-integrate former prisoners into society.
St Mungo’s Broadway will be taking over two new integrated Mental Health services in the Bristol area from April 2015. They already work on Street Outreach, Compass Health, The Wellbeing Service (with Second Step), Pathways to Employment.
Getting people involved with Woolly Hat Day isn’t just about wearing hats, people can get involved by knitting hats, donating hats to homeless charities, baking and organisations can hold hat auctions, raffles, run hat award ceremonies. People can take ‘woolly hat selfies’ to post on social media platforms such as twitter and Facebook.
Phil Spence, a patron of St. Mungo’s Broadway says on their website:
Woolly Hat Day is a fantastic excuse to dig out your most colourful, flamboyant or unusual hat and wear it with pride to make a difference to the lives of homeless and vulnerable people. There are countless ways to take part in the day, so why not hold a hat party, sponsor a friend to wear something eccentric or bake some Woolly Hat Day cupcakes …
